Mehta Kalyaan Das Bedi Ji was a Hindu by faith, a Khatri by caste of the Bedi clan, he worked an accountant of land revenue in the government. Kalu Mehta was the father of Guru Nanak Dev, the founder and first guru of Sikhism. Sikhism teaches universal brotherhood and initially taught noble principles of social equity in a society which was riddled with class and caste and low standard of living for lower caste denominations.
